This past week I recieved a award for Top Tri-state fashion bloggers along with Carisha Simmons of RunwayInk & Mohammed Shariff of Fame Appeal at Philadephia’s Premiere Networking Event, The IN Crowd.  Each blogger was recognized for their hard work and achievements in Philadelphia’s fashion community. Being that I am new to blogging as of November 28,2010 I am truly honored to receive this award & for the support from my friends, family & all those congrats tweets.

The event was an evening of networking for the Philadelphia Fashion Industry featuring vendors from makeup, hair care and business services as well as live makeup and hair styling demonstrations. In attendance were industry heavy hitters and fashion presentations from new boutiques, designers and stylist. All these components made for a great night and I am truly grateful to have been apart of it.

A King’s Theme: Men in Pink

“Back when they thought pink polos would hurt the Roc…” -Kanye West

Your typical wardrobe is full of blue, brown, black, white and grey. It’s ok to play it safe but try infusing a variety of colors into your wardrobe and you’ll be glad you did it. The usually feminine color pink, is something most men feel like they can’t pull off. From amongst the most common reasons men shy away from the color is fearing judgment from peers. The fact is, pink is not something that you should be afraid of. Pink is finding its way into most menswear – from cardigans, dress shirts, ties and other accessories, pink is definitely becoming the new essential color. K.R.T.

What colors goes well with Pink:

  • Pink & most Blue tones
  • Pink & Black
  • Pink & Brown
  • Pink & Tan
  • Pink & Grey
  • Pink & Purple
  • Pink & most Greens

Shades of Pink: These words are synonymous with pink or represent various shades of the color pink: blush, coral, flesh, flush, fuchsia, hot pink, magenta, raspberry, rose, salmon.

  • Glasses from House of Ra’oof
  • Seersucker Blazer by Ralph Lauren
  • Belt by J Crew

“A study showed that Pink has a subduing effect on those suffering emotional distress”

“women love pink and are more likely to give you a second glance”

“Arguably the basis is that someone who’s self-evidently “masculine” doesn’t need to demonstrate his masculinity in the stereotypical ways”

“Pink is the new Black”

“Working outside of my comfort zone”

Check out my cameo at the 1:07 mark on this year’s Roots Picnic Rewind Video shot by the Young King Yahya Ismail for OkayplayerTV. As soon as I walked into the picnic I was asked to say a few words. Lately I have been in front of the camera a lot. It’s not really my forte but neither was public speaking at one point. I am learning to adapt to my environment and step outside my comfort zone. As time progresses I get more & more comfortable being someone with a voice and sharing that voice with others. K.R.T.

K.R.T. x Cultured Couture Vintage Photoshoot

I recently did a photo shoot with Cultured Couture Vintage modeling some of the great pieces they carry in the store. A collaboration of 6 models, we were able to put our own twist on the store’s rare pieces. The best thing about Cultured Couture Vintage is that they carry high quality vintage from exclusive brands like Lanvin, YSL, polo Ralph Lauren, Gianfranco Ferre, Paul Smith, Ozwald Boateng, Brooks Brothers, Louis Vuttion and many more.

Love Our Wave Fashion Show

“I’m known as a gentleman of style. I want to be known as the man who styled the gentleman”

I started my styling career off at Kamouflage Concept Store 4 yrs ago. Before then I would just get dress for the love of it, not realizing making other people look good was my passion. My father gave me creative control to style the models for the store’s grand opening fashion show in 2008 and now in 2011 I styled the store’s 3rd fashion show with the help of Aaron Ramey of Babyloncartel.com. We couldn’t have done this without the talented models from RM67, Debonaire Models & a few loyal customers that decided to walk the runway. Philly R&B artist Beano performed some of his new music for the crowd.

Kamouflage Concept Store is hosting it’s Annual fashion show in the center court of Cheltenham Mall.  The theme of this year’s show is “Love Our Wave”. The word “wave” is synonymous with “swag”, or style. With all of the senseless violence that has plagued our communities for the last few years Kamouflage Concept Store, plans on highlighting positivity in our community  & share this through fashion, art, music, young entrepreneurship, &  family values.

The day’s activities will begin with Cheltenham Mall’s Father Child Look- Alike Contest, followed by musical entertainment. KCS will host a “Pop-Up Art Gallery”  & social mixer, that will lead up to the main event. Some of Philadelphia’s most talented poets will be introducing the Fashion Show, & Peace+Love, a Philadelphia based non-profit that raises awareness on the issue of violence will be a part of the days activities, closing out the fashion show with a message of peace and non-violence.

Arts, Beats & Eats x Social Scenes Video

Arts Beats & Eats (June 2011 Book Drive) from SocialScenes on Vimeo.

Check out this video that my good friends over at SocialScenes captured from our last Arts, Beats & Eats “book drive” this past Sunday. SocialScenes.Tv is a social networking platform where you are able to view, share and experience all of the great events the Philadelphia social scene has to offer. Look out for them in a place near you. K.R.T.

ABE Best Dressed Spotlight: Brad Pointer

IMG_9651

Every first Sunday of the month Shaheed Rucker of Changemakers Org & Gianni Lee of Babyloncartel & myself host a social mixer called Arts, Beats & Eats. We like to bring out the best in our attendees from choices of music, conversation & even style. So I have been featuring the best dressed male every Sunday on my blog for a style feature called Arts, Beats & Eats Best Dressed (Check out last month’s winner Tony “Munch” Rogers)

This month’s winner is no stranger to Arts, Beats & Eats. I have been noticing the Mt Airy native Brad Pointer‘s creative fashion sense for quite some time. I like to judge style based on details, overall swagger, improvement, originality & in his case consistency. Brad is a current student at Penn State University (Berks Campus) majoring in Kinesiology and minoring in Business Management. He likes to make his own customary adjustments to his wardrobe to bring his appearance above the average look. He plans to start a clothing line with his fellow colleagues in the near future while pursuing a career in Personal Training with a desire of operating his own Health and Fitness practice in the future. K.R.T.

Brad’s King Wardrobe:

  • Vest: Old Navy Vintage
  • Shirt: Levis
  • Jean Shorts: Lucky Brand
  • Shoes: Adidas Nza Shell Mid
  • Watch: Breitling
  • Chain: Ambush Pow Necklace

Over the weekend there were many events happening around the city that brought together creative people who help push the creative renaissance in the area. I’m all about kinship, friendship and vibing out with positive people so to be around everyone was a blessing. In the first picture we were back stage at 4th Annual Roots picnic 2011 where Nas, Wiz Khalifa, Esperanza Spalding & The Roots performed. Bread Box Vintage

BreadBoxVintage

I was invited by one of my favorite photographers Dave Austria to a pop-up store for vintage shopping called Breadbox Vintage on June 4th. Breadbox is launching the opening of its online store breadboxvintage.bigcartel.com and will have tons of high quality, well-selected pieces.

The pop-up store will be held at the studio Fajr and I held the Missfit Vintage shoot back in January with Dave. Stop by, check out Breadbox Vintage’s collection and preview the Summer 2011 collection.

Arts, Beats & Eats “Book Drive” June 5th

ABEJUNE4

Each first Sunday of the month Shaheed Rucker of Change Makers, Gianni Lee of  Babylon Cartel and myself plan a social mixer called Arts, Beats & Eats. Arts Beats & Eats features different local vendors and artist that vend and display their latest projects. Complimentary buffet and wine is served for guests as they socialize to further their desired careers goals while listening to great music and monthly featured spoken word artists and comedians.

Arts, Beats & Eats contributes to the well-being of society through health initiatives and community service efforts. It is an event where individuals can grow personally and professionally. Monthly themes focus on “giving back” through toy, book, clothing and food drives. Other themes include educating our guests on health, political and social ills that plague our community.

This month’s theme is “Book Drive / Literature Swap”. Come donate , trade and collect  literature. Knowledge is Power!

I also will be doing Arts Beats & Eats Best Dressed Spotlight where I will give the  best dressed gentleman of the night a style feature on Kings Rule Together.

Arts Beats & Eats will be held June 5th 2011 at Primo Bacio Ristorante (8460 Limekiln Pike ) Towers at Wyncote from 7 pm-11 pm.
