Each first Sunday of the month Shaheed Rucker of Change Makers, Gianni Lee of  Babylon Cartel and myself plan a social mixer called Arts, Beats & Eats. Arts Beats & Eats features different local vendors and artist that vend and display their latest projects. Complimentary buffet and wine is served for guests as they socialize to further their desired careers goals while listening to great music and monthly featured spoken word artists and comedians.

Arts, Beats & Eats contributes to the well-being of society through health initiatives and community service efforts. It is an event where individuals can grow personally and professionally. Monthly themes focus on “giving back” through toy, book, clothing and food drives. Other themes include educating our guests on health, political and social ills that plague our community.

This month’s theme is “Book Drive / Literature Swap”. Come donate , trade and collect  literature. Knowledge is Power!

I also will be doing Arts Beats & Eats Best Dressed Spotlight where I will give the  best dressed gentleman of the night a style feature on Kings Rule Together.

Arts Beats & Eats will be held June 5th 2011 at Primo Bacio Ristorante (8460 Limekiln Pike ) Towers at Wyncote from 7 pm-11 pm.

“A year in the making”

When first starting Arts, Beats & Eats our (Shaheed Rucker, Gianni Lee & myself) intentions were to to bring together like minded individual to a event that was beneficial to our careers as well as to our love of arts and socializing.

Reflecting back over the year of Arts, Beats & Eats it has far exceeded my expectations and much more than I could ever imagine. Arts, Beats & Eats has become a staple for our culture and it’s become a must attend event for young entrepreneurs in the tri-state area. With each installment making connections and donating to cause or charity we have watched  many lasting partnerships &  business opportunities come about on each 1st Sunday of the month.

This month’s theme was our 1 Year Anniversary Floral Display event “Mayflower” This event is held each first Sunday of the month at Primo Bacio Ristorante located at the Towers At Wyncote 8460 Limekiln Pike.

The award winning stage play VI Degrees written by Kash Goins has been running since 2008. Donja R. Love was the first director Kash let ensemble a new cast and crew. Donja and co-director Heather Thomas had a lot on their hands to bring this notable play to life. The best thing about working with Donja is that all of his plays have a powerful meaning behind them. VI Degrees is about the significance of H.I.V. in the black community & the fear we have with being truthful and honest to ourselves.

As my second time around being a costume director I’m learning that when styling a full cast of a play you must understand the character just as well as the person who is playing them. In this play there were 10 characters and each person has to look the part to make his/her character believable. With the help of fellow stylist Tiffany Pinkney, Kia Denise & Dougie Newton my job was a lot easier. Thanks guys!

The next play I will be working on is “How To Kill A Child & A Demon” written by Donja R.Love running Saturday May 21st (2pm & 8pm)  and Sunday May 22nd (2pm & 8pm)
