K.R.T. Cares | Career Days Recap

“A small visit can have a huge impact”

When we were younger, most schools had what was known as a “Career Day.” This day would consist of professionals coming in to discuss what their occupation was, what went on throughout their day, and the steps that it would take to get there. Of course it was great that they came to speak with the students, but there was a running pattern in regards to their occupations. These people were normally police officers, fire fighters, doctors, teachers and lawyers, which was perfectly fine.

K.R.T. x NBHB Heart Brker Pin Collab

“putting your heart into your art and breaking limitations”

Kings Rule Together second time collaborating on a product is with the Philadelphia based brand Natrl Born Heart Brkers. Natrl Born Heart Brkers is all about putting your heart into your art and breaking limitations, which is what Kings Rule Together is all about.  I decide to incorporate the popular  ”Kings INSPIRE Kings,” and “Queens INSPIRE Kings” Designs into the pins because  I believe in these motto’s wholeheartedly. In an effort to continue sharing these beliefs, Natrl Born Heart Brkers and I decided that another collaboration was the best option.

As you can see from the video, the pins are hand painted and crafted with precision and care. The finished product is a reflection of the heart of both brands, and can be chosen in 4 different styles for Kings and Queens alike. – K.R.T.

The K.R.T. X NBHB collaborative pins can be found HERE.

Behind The King: i am OTHER behind the scenes video

“He’s (Pharrell) a King and I’m inspired by him… Kings inspire Kings.” – Curran J

Back in December I had the opportunity to be apart of a video for Pharrell Williams for an innovative movement called i am OTHER. As explained by Pharrell “i am OTHER is a cultural movement dedicated to Thinkers, Innovators and Outcasts.” Here is a behind the scenes look at the i am OTHER video. Director, Justin Francis, explained the videos concept, which was a loose parody of the extraterrestrial and science fiction films of the 20th century (more than likely “Close Encounters of the Third Kind”).

The overall message was that it was time for those who are creative, different, and socially outside of what is considered to be normal to step outside of their comfort zones and just be who they are. Pharrell as well as his  artists Buddy, Maxine Ashley, and Leah LaBelle gave cameos and spoke of the project.

Check out the video below. You can see the young King at the 34 second mark and even speaking of my experience during the filming of the project at 2:10. mark. – K.R.T.

Last week I had the pleasure of attending the global trade show Project in NYC. In this recap video above you will find the president Andrew Pollard, Designer Todd Snyder offer impressions of the event. You will also catch Tawfeeq Gaines and myself cameo at the 3:02 mark as we have a friendly conversation with the curator of the bloggers lounge for Project, Marcus Troy.

I plan to do a more in depth write on the whole trade show experience at Project Las Vegas. I will also cover  other tradeshows going on at the same time, such as capsule and ENK . Stayed tuned. - K.R.T.

 SKLTN MAGAZINE

I had the privilege to photograph Marcus Sucram, the owner of the Skltn Magazine during one of my Street Kings series during the summer. I was intrigued by his look and eager to capture some stills of him. Always prepared for new ideas and challenge after maintaining communication, I allowed Marcus Sucram to interview me in the presents of my home. This was the first time an interview of this caliber was done. Needless to say, good things come to those with an open-mind. Now you can find me in the second issue of Skltn Magazine. K.R.T. x Freek Ugly

Mad Decent Block Party Philly 2011

“I always wanted someone to draw me in a cartoonist like character”

Started in 2006, Freekugly Lifestyle Group began creating a familiar but different form of art. Freekugly Lifestyle Group artistically expresses themselves by creating cartoon artists that mirror the image of some of the people we know best but they add a little bit of “Freekugly” to their work of art. Founder and artist, Kareem is always working to produce a cartoon character everyday for 365 days straight. Kareem also creates, and sells distinct but innovative apparel.  Promoting the term Ugly is not so commonly used in today’s society but Freekugly Lifestyle Group shows you the beauty in the term “ugly” but in an artistic manner. – K.R.T.

Can you guess who these characters below are?

“The inspiration behind the characters, is somewhat how I see things.  I tend to find humor in all things, even some things that I shouldn’t. A lot of the characters are based off of people I know, celebrities, and personalities that I create or have come across.” – Kareem

Arts, Beats & Eats “Breast Cancer Awareness” 10.2.11

ABE-October

Arts, Beats & Eats is a monthly networking mixer in the city of Philadelphia that contributes to the well-being of society through health initiatives and community service efforts. Arts, Beats & Eats is an event where individuals can grow personally and professionally. Monthly themes focus on “giving back” through toy, book, clothing and food drives. Other themes surround educating our guest on health, political and social ills that plague our community. Individuals are able to enjoy live art, spoken word and fine music while shopping different local vendors.

This months focus is “Breast Cancer Awareness”. Last year our organization assembled over 200 individuals to help raise awareness. Attendees supported the cause by wearing the traditional pink ribbon and other creative fabrics. This year we hope to generate more individuals as we include our Walk and Flag football game at Roxborough High School Football field. The walk will begin at 9:00 am. Please spread the word and come help support this movement.

ARTS BEATS & EATS will take place at Primo Bacio Ristorante  (8460 Limekiln Pk) Towers At Wyncote. 7pm-11pm

K.R.T. x 2011 Jeep Compass XP

Screen shot 2011-09-27 at 12.12.54 PM

“A King should always travel in style”

I recently had the opportunity to test drive a 2011 Jeep Compass for a week for being a influential blogger in the city of Philadelphia. When I first saw the car I thought to myself “Soccer Dad” but I soon came to realize that that wasn’t the case.

The Jeep XP is in fact a smooth ride and it is very good on gas with 23 City and 27 Highway mpg. I would know this because I put 350 miles on it.  Throughout the week, the Jeep Compass came in handy with storage and getting me from meetings and photoshoots. I also received a lot of compliments on how nice the car was and how it complemented my fly.

With the help of Sammy Tarantino I was able to capture my experience with my first video on K.R.T. below. – K.R.T.

K.R.T. Recent Press: GQ Tommy Ton’s Street Style New York

Screen shot 2011-09-19 at 10.41.17 PM

One goal that many people have is to be recognized in their craft and be noticed for their creativity. Since fashion is one of the many things I love and am dedicated to, it is an honor to be photographed by the world’s top men’s fashion magazine’s GQ. While this is not my first time on GQ, it is still thrilling to be included among so many stylish men, fashion professionals and to be in the consideration set of stylish gentlemen.

Attending NYFW, the difference between this season and last season is that people knew my name & brand rather then just my face. It also bought up thoughts of the GQ article on Worst Dressed Cities in America and Philadelphia being #6. I am not only representing myself  when I travel but for all the stylish people that come from Philadelphia and all the men around the world who may not get the recognition they deserve. This street style photo is only the start for many collaborations, my fashion career and furthering the Kings Rule Together mission. - K.R.T.
