Recently participating in the Villa Dream Project, I had the opportunity to speak to some students in a classroom setting at Benjamin Franklin High School. The irony of it all is that I was actually attending because I knew there would be over 40 industry leaders— such as former president of Def Jam Kevin Liles, Mayor Michael Nutter and top executives at Nike, Twitter, NBA, BET and more—came together for the Villa Dream Project. Through a series of panels and networking opportunities, the executives provided mentorship and advice to hundreds of Philadelphia high school students.
Still under the impression that I was just a participant, I was approached by Greg Corbin the founder of PYPM (Philly Youth Poetry Movement), if I would like to talk to the students during his Art & Design panel. Anxiously watching the 30+ students walk into the room I gratefully accepted. It was an honor for me being in my early twenties and having the opportunity to speak to the youth. I am a strong believer that the youth can relate to the stories of people in their same generation. My mission was to shed light on what I have done thus far in my life as a young entrepreneur in effort to inspire at least one person in the room. - K.R.T.
